Genetically Modified Foods

The U.S. has a rich endowment of rich farmlands, and a very highly skilled farmer population that is the envy of the world. We remain very highly competitive in world markets, and we should resist the temptation to tinker with genetically-modified foods because there is little economic justification for it—the public-health and environmental risks associated with this type of gamble are too high, and the potential benefits too uncertain.
